(CNN) -- Inter Milan's five-year grip on the Serie A title may have ended last weekend, but the Italian club can still win a trophy this season by retaining the Coppa Italia.
The Nerazzurri set up a final clash with Palermo on May 29 after a 1-1 draw against Roma on Wednesday secured a 2-1 aggregate victory in the semi.
Having won the first leg of the rematch of last season's domestic cup decider thanks to Dejan Stankovic's goal at the Stadio Olimpico, Inter went further ahead at the San Siro as top scorer Samuel Eto'o netted in the 58th minute.
It was the Cameroon striker's 34th goal in 50 matches in all competitions this season.
Striker Marco Borriello, on loan from Inter's city rivals and new league champions AC Milan, headed a goal back for Roma from Simone Perrotta's cross with six minutes to play, having earlier hit the post.
Inter held on to reach the final for the sixth time in seven years as captain Javier Zanetti celebrated his 1,000th professional career appearance.
"It was a moving evening. I thank everyone, starting with my wife Paula and my children who were in the stands," the 37-year-old Argentina international told Inter's website.
"Tonight's match was important in every sense, and for that I can really celebrate."
Inter will return to the Eternal City to take on a Sicilian team who have never won a major trophy, but have high hopes after ending Milan's hopes of a domestic double with a 2-1 win on Tuesday which sealed a 4-3 aggregate victory.
