(CNN) -- FIFA president Sepp Blatter has sent a best wishes message to Prince William and Kate Middleton ahead of the Royal Wedding Friday.
The Prince, 28, is president of the English Football Association (FA) and delivered a presentation to FIFA's executive committee as part of the country's failed bid to host the 2018 World Cup.
Blatter -- who has been at the head of the sport's global governing body since 1998 -- thanked the Prince, who is an Aston Villa fan, for the support he has shown to football, particularly at grassroots level.
"I would also like to take the opportunity to thank you ... for the passion and commitment you have shown for the game of football," said Blatter's correspondence, according to FIFA's web site.
Prince William is second-in-line to succeed current British monarch Queen Elizabeth II and is the son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.
The ceremony will take place at London's Westminster Abbey and will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams.
Blatter, 75, announced earlier this year he would step down as the head of FIFA in 2015, if he was elected for a fourth term as president in the June 1 vote.
Head of the Asian Football Confederation Mohammed Bin Hammam will be the Swiss' sole rival in the ballot, which will take place in Zurich, Switzerland.
