1.Arsenal and Manchester City reach FA Cup quarters

(CNN) -- Arsenal and Manchester City are both through to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup after comfortable fifth round wins over Leyton Orient and Aston Villa respectively on Wednesday.

Manager Arsene Wenger made 10 changes to his Arsenal side after their Carling Cup final defeat by Birmingham on Sunday, and the Premier League outfit proved too strong for their third-tier opponents as Nicklas Bendtner scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 replay victory.

Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh opened the scoring in the seventh minute from close range, after some fine play on the right from Tomas Rosicky -- the only player to retain his place from the weekend's Wembley loss.

It was Chamakh's first goal since November and strengthens his claims for a place in the side following Robin van Persie's injury.

Then Bendtner took control, adding a second on the half hour mark when heading in Kieran Gibbs' cross from the left -- and curling home a fine strike from the edge of the area for Arsenal's third.

The Danish striker completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Gibbs was fouled in the area.

Gael Clichy netted only his second senior goal to complete the scoring for Arsenal, whose reward is a last eight trip to Manchester United, with the top two sides in the Premier League going head-to-head in the tie of the round.

Meanwhile, Manchester City made short work of Premier League rivals Villa, cruising to a 3-0 success.

Yaya Toure gave City an early lead when netting from close range after Patrick Vieira's header had rebounded off a defender.

And Mario Balotelli doubled their lead in the 25th minute, running on to a long Toure through-ball before superbly lifting his shot beyond goalkeeper Brad Friedel and in off the post.

David Silva completed the scoring for City with a superb drive with just 20 minutes remaining and Roberto Mancini's side now entertain Reading, the only non-Premier League team still in the competition.

Meanwhile, holders Bayern Munich are out of the German Cup, beaten 1-0 by Schalke in Wednesday's second semifinal.

Spanish legend Raul headed home the only goal in the 15th-minute and the Blues will now face second division side Duisburg in May's final in Berlin.

The defeat piles more pressure on Bayern coach Louis van Gaal, with the Champions League their only realistic chance of silverware this season.

And in Scotland, Celtic are through to the last eight of the cup after defeating Glasgow rivals Rangers 1-0 in a typically feisty encounter.

Mark Wilson scored the only goal of the game for the home side, after Rangers had Steven Whittaker sent off.

2.Tiger gunning for Masters glory after a golfing year to forget

(CNN) -- Tiger Woods has told CNN he still has a burning desire to add to his haul of major titles as he aims to banish a disappointing year with victory in the Masters at Augusta.

Woods returned from a self-imposed exile from the game at the 2010 Masters and finished fourth despite admitting a lack of mental and physical preparation.

A difficult season followed as Woods failed to win any tournaments and slipped from world number one back to his current ranking of fifth.

But he told CNN's Living Golf show that he has a much better balance in his life than he did 12 months ago and says he "always" wants to win at Augusta, with this year's edition a little over a month away.

Tiger Woods refining his golf game

Tiger Woods on winning majors "It's fun to win that tournament," he said. "I've enjoyed my wins in the past and it was a lot of fun coming up to the 18th green when I knew I was going to win. To enjoy that walk up 18 is unlike any other place."

Woods admits he is at a loss to explain how he managed to come fourth in his first appearance after taking several months out after he was engulfed in a very public, personal crisis.

Despite trailing eventual winner Phil Mickelson by five shots, Woods' feat of finishing near the top of the leaderboard with little practice or preparation is one that still amazes him.

He said: "That was very hard because I wasn't as prepared physically or mentally for the event, but I came back to a golf course I had success on and I knew how to play it.

"I still don't know how I did that. I think it helped coming back to a golf course I know. I know where I need to put the golf ball on each and every flag and that helped a lot.

"Of all the golf courses we play St Andrews (in Scotland) and Augusta are the two you have to know have to play. You can't go out there and just hit the golf ball and expect to shoot good numbers."

Few are predicting Woods will match his fourth spot in four weeks time when the globe's top golfers descend on Augusta for the first major of the season.

Woods' trophy drought now extends to 15 months but he insists he is in a better frame of mind going into the tournament than he was last year.

"We've moved on, we've moved forward," he said. "It's about getting my life in a balance and that's been good, it feels good. My life is certainly a lot more balanced and where it needs to be now than it was then."

With 14 major championships in the bank, Woods is still fixed on usurping Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 -- "I'm not trying to match it, I'm trying to get past it" -- but says being a good father is more important than his achievements on the course.

He said: "It's all about them so whatever they want to do we do. Obviously, when I don't have them that's when I can practice a little more but when I'm around them it's all about them.

"It's the greatest thing in the world it really is. Being present for your kids is far more valuable than anything you do, to be around them to be with them and help them grow and share experiences with them is something so special."

3.Blatter: 2010 South Africa World Cup huge financial success

FIFA have confirmed they made $3.655 billion from the World Cup in South Africa, after the organization announced buoyant financial figures between 2007 and 2010.

President Sepp Blatter said that the figures proved it was the right decision to award the 2010 tournament to South Africa, despite fears that hosting the biggest event in football on the continent was a financial risk.

"I am the happiest man to announce that the World Cup in South Africa was a huge, huge financial success for everybody -- for Africa for South Africa, for FIFA," Blatter told reporters after a meeting of the executive committee of football's world governing body in Zurich on Thursday.

"For the first time in FIFA's four-year accounts we are over four billion dollars," the Swiss added.

Deputy secretary general and finance chief Markus Kattner confirmed that FIFA earned $4.189 billion over the last four years -- 87% of which came from the 2010 World Cup.

Kattner said that the the bulk of the organization's earnings came from the sale of broadcasting rights and marketing or sponsorship contracts from the tournament.

However, as a non-profit organization under Swiss law, the $631 million surplus raised by FIFA in 2010 will be distributed among footballing nations to be re-invested back into the game.

Meanwhile, Blatter also said that he expected to be unchallenged for a fourth term as FIFA president when elections take place in June this year.

This is despite American Sports Illustrated journalist Grant Wahl having stated his intention to challenge Blatter. Mohammed Bin Hammam, president of the Asian Football Confederation, is also expected to run.

Blatter has been president of FIFA since 1998 and was recently criticized over his handling over the World Cup cash-for-votes scandal.

"There was not one single approach as long as I am informed for candidates for the future," the 72-year-old, who revealed he he had received nomination for his own candidature from the Somalia Football Federation on Thursday.
